On the occasion of Merry Christmas, I planned to go hiking in Tarebhir with my family. As planned, we walked to Sundhara and took a bus to Gokarna, which took us around one hour. From there, we started to walk. The first part was on the back-top road, indeed it was not fun to walk. But we don’t have a choice but to do that. After around 20 minutes, we reached the Jagdole gate, and from there we took the right side.
The first part of our Tarebhir Hiking was inside the pine forest and decorated with prayer flags, and we needed to climb up the steps straight away. Soon we reached the road again and turned left towards the National Martyrs Park. From there, we again walked on the dirt road till Jagdole and then started to climb up into the jungle. There is a road on the right side and a shortcut trail to the left side to reach Tarebhir.

“A walk in nature walks the soul back home.”
We took the left side, it was climbing up right away, but the prayer flags powered us to climb up. After some time, we reached an open place from where we enjoyed the Kathmandu view on both sides. That place looked like a picnic spot, and the walking trail became flat and easy to walk. Along the way, we met some other hikers and even saw some people camping in the jungle.
I was hiking to Tarebhir with my 3-year-old baby girl, which is why it took us around 2 and a half hours to reach Tarebhir. Along the way encountered many other hikers, and a few of them are coming down. On the other hand, while we were descending, we encountered a lot of hikers. Tarebhir hiking with family is very good for all the family members to get to know each other better.
What do I show during the Tarebhir hiking with my family?

The first thing is that it’s a beautiful hiking route near Kathmandu Valley. Very easy hiking trails to relax from the crowded Kathmandu. Decorated with a lot of prayer flags and the outstanding Kathmandu Valley. It seems it’s a great path for mountain bikers because we catch up with several bikers riding downhill. Many small shops sell water, chapati, peanuts, instant noodles, biscuits, etc. There are a couple of rainwater preservers along the way to Tarebhir.
Urgently required to manage trash
The Tarebhir hiking arteries are completely destroying the beauty of the Tarebhir Hiking route. To preserve and protect this beautiful walking trail urgently need to take action as soon as possible. Otherwise, one day this hiking path will disappear. So, the local government should take some effort to save this attractive hiking avenue.
There are many organizations that are working to save the environment. Where are you? Only having dollars in your pocket? On the other hand, where are the local governments and their stockholders?
To control waste, some points should be followed by anyone.
Make a signboard at the hiking starting places with a strong note do not leave trash after you use it.
Put dustbins in some places and hire a man who can look after and dispose of the trash.
Put some signs inside the jungle with strong notices and put trash in the proper place, or you will have to pay a fine for it. Do not throw trash here.
Trial marking/signs

Definitely, this hiking trail is one of the easiest hiking trails in Kathmandu. The trail marking and signs are very important for walkers. Also, most of the hiking trails are inside the forest, and in some places, there are different trails, and people may get confused there. So that if there are signs, say, the way to Tarebhir, hikers can easily follow the trail.
We met an old lady (A snacks seller and an American Girl, a pro hiker)

At the top of the Tarebhir, we met a foreign girl, and she is from the USA. She is living in Kathmandu for her studies, and she is a pro hiker. As per our conversation, she told me that she had been to the Everest region and the Annapurna region. And her next destination is in the Langtang region. She likes to walk in nature and explore the region. That is why she was doing this hike to get lost in nature during her vacation.
And also we met an old lady selling snacks such as instant noodles, boiled eggs, hot tea, water, and many more. Definitely, there were more little shops, but I don’t know why my heart said stop there and buy something. She was such a nice lady, and we talked about our hike, my little daughter, and many other things. By age, she is 68, but still, she was so energetic to sell snacks to the hikers.
Tarebhir Hiking can combine with Shivapuri Hiking and Shivapuri Nagi Gumba Hike. It requires more time and a kind of pro hiking experience, and needs to carry enough water and food. This is the hike where you don’t have to pay for an entry ticket. But you can enjoy similar kinds of views and get the same types of hiking experience as other hiking routes in Kathmandu.
