My first Everest Base Camp Trek as a guide

At the beginning of my trekking guiding career, I got an opportunity to do Everest Base Camp Trek. First, I study and get the needed information from the lonely planet book about that region. And I was ready to do my first Everest Base Camp Trek as a guide. I was very excited as well as nervous because for the first time; I am going to the Everest region as a guide. Also, flying into the world’s most dangerous airfield in Lukla (Tenzing Hillary Airport)

Our flight was in the morning time; that was the second flight of that day and we flew on time. Luckily I got the window side seat from where I observed the Kathmandu Valley and the hills around Kathmandu. After a few minutes of flying in the sky, my eyes are enjoying the snowy mountain peaks; from the window, and I constantly looking at those mountain peaks. Suddenly I saw every tourist moving their camera from the mountains; to take a photo of the Lukla airport because we were close to there.

When I first saw the Lukla airport, the word most dangerous airstrip come to my mind. And I was praying OM MANI PADME HUNG for a safe landing and in a few minutes, we landed there safely. We get off the plane and I request my guest to take one photo of me with the aircraft where we flew. After taking some photos at the airport we met with the porter and are breakfasted at the Namaste Hotel.

Walking first time in that region and waking as a guide was feeling more nervous than excited. But I thought I should follow the other trekkers and guide what they do. Along the way, I met some very helpful guides and I followed them and I stayed with them. We always used the same hotel to stay and eat; in the trekking regions, we must eat where we stay because this is the golden rule of the trekking areas.

That was my first time Everest Base Camp Trek as a guide and went very nicely I enjoyed the trek a lot. On the second day, I saw the top of the world Mount Everest 8848m before we reached Namche Bazar. Namche Bazar is one of the biggest markets in the Khumbu region and a place to relax before pushing further to Everest Base Camp Trek. We slept in Namche for two nights and one day we visited the Everest viewpoint and Khumjung village. And the beautiful monasteries and museums in Namche and Khumjung.

The trip was going very well and we reached Dingboche. Dingboche where we have to sleep for two nights as an acclimate. During our rest day, we climbed the Nangkartshang Peak above the Dingboche valley and this peak is more than 5000 m above sea level. From the peak, we enjoyed the picturesque view of the Amadablam, and other associated mountain peaks, and Dingboche and Chhukung valley. Dingboche is also a good place to have good coffee and bakery items before being in the lap of the world’s highest peak.

That trekking trip was my first time as a guide and I am guiding someone to the base camp of Everest. We reached Gorekshep and after lunch, we hiked to Everest Base Camp; from Gorekshep that took around two and half hours to reach the base camp of the world’s highest peak. I was feeling very much pleased to be there and put my footprint on the base camp. During the spring season, there were so many tents because the expedition teams are there to climb Mount Everest and Lothse. We spent around an hour around the base camp and Khumbu glacier and back to Gorekshep.

The next day early in the morning we hiked up to Kalaphatter for a sunrise view. Luckily we had the best sunrise view and mount Everest view from the top of the Kalaphatter. Kalaphatter is the highest point of our trek with a height of 5550m above sea level. We enjoyed Mount Everest, Khumbu glacier, Mount Pumori, and other mountains view and then back to Gorekshep and trek down to Pheriche. This was my first time at Everest Base Camp Trek as a guide and I was doing very well.

From Pheriche, we trek back to Namche Bazar, and then the next day we trek back to Lukla. It was my first Everest Base Camp Trek as a guide and I did it successfully but still, I waited for one more night to get back to Kathmandu. The next day early in the morning we went to the airport because our flight was early in the morning. We flew back to Kathmandu and had a successful trekking party.
