The Shivaratri Festival is one of the greatest Hindu festivals that celebrates each year in Nepal and India. It’s also, called Maha Shivaratri, Maha Shivaratri means the greatest night of Shive. And believed that this night Shiva would perform his Tandav Dance or heavenly dance. This auspices festival celebrates praying for Lord Shiva, Shiva is the God of destruction and reproduction. On the occasion of this festival, all the Shive Shrines are full of devotees.

The significance of this festival is Shiva and Shakti; it means the balance between male and female power in the world. The Hindu believes that the night of Shivaratri is the night to eradicate the darkness and ignorance from life and start a better life ahead. And others said that on this night offering Shiva’s favorite icons can assist in clearing all the sins in life and open the path to Moksha.

During this festival, people will fast for the whole day pray for lord shiva, and eat something in next day after taking a bath. Taking fast on the occasion of this festive is not only taking blessing from lord Shiva; but also recognizing the determination of the individuals. People all over the country celebrate this great carnival in the Shiva Temples, in the open places, and in their homes with friends and families.

In Nepal, the Shivaratri festival is popular with everyone, however, most young people are engaged. The reason behind that is that they can freely smoke marijuana and other smoky items. Even in sweets, they mixed marijuana and eat and fed it to another person. This is a bad direction to celebrate such an auspices festivity.

In Nepal, Pashupatinath Temple is the main attraction to the devotees during this festival as other Shiva Temples too. Thousands of followers visit Pashupatinath Temple to worship Lord Shiva.
