Mr. Kami Rita Sherpa, the Legendary climber, was born on 17th January, 1970 in Thame Village, Everest Region of Nepal. Thame is also the village of Legendary Tenzing Norgay Sherpa. Kami Rita Sherpa has reached the Mt.Everest 30 times and continues his climbing journey to the Himalayas.
Mr. Sherpa has been a mountain guide for almost three decades, having first summited Mount Everest in 1994 during a commercial expedition. During these 29 years, he has climbed many peaks over 8,000 meters, summiting them 44 times.
Kami Rita also mounted the world’s second-highest mountain, K-2, in Pakistan. He is a Nepali Sherpa climbing guide who, since May 2023, has held the record for most ascents to the summit of Mount Everest. He scaled Mt. Everest for the 30th time (twice) in May 2024, eclipsing his record set on 17th May, 2024. May 27 2025 once again Mr. Sherpa climbed Mount Everest for the 31st time and extended his more ascent of Mount Everest by a Human.
Mr. Kami’s family members are also skilled climbing guides. His father was among the first professional Sherpa climbing guides after Everest was opened to foreign mountaineers in 1950. His brother, Lakpa Rita Sherpa, is also an experienced climbing guide who has scaled Mt. Everest 17 times.
I can climb for a few more years, said Kami Rita Sherpa some time ago while giving an interview to the BBC. Also, he said that “I am physically and mentally healthy. I can go until I am 60 years old. With oxygen, it’s no big deal to climb any mountain, we were born in the high Himalayas”. Also, Kami Rita told the BBC that “I never think about making records. I have no idea about that I could make a record. If you had known about the record, I could have done more at the beginning when I started my climbing career.
