Today I visited the National Museum (Rashtriya Sangralaya) at Chhauni Kathmandu with my family. This National Museum is one of the oldest museums in Kathmandu. And it has the best collection of Nepali art, architecture, culture, and historical monuments. This museum is in Rana’s mansion so the building itself self is the best attraction of this museum. Because this building belongs to Rana’s period.
This museum is one of the best attractions in Kathmandu valley for Nepali and foreign visitors. Especially this museum is for those students who wish to see the culture, history, and religion of Nepal in one place. Hence here every day except for public holidays many students visit this historical museum as a school activity organized by their school. So today I met many students who were observing the museum and their teachers are guiding them, Also, explaining about the things that are inside the museum.
National Museum is the best place to see the collection of bronze statues and stone sculptures. In the other section, there is a collection of monastic items that will use in the Buddhist monastery. I found one more section where is a collection of dolls from all over the world. And Wheal teeth, Tigers, elephant’s heads, different types of birds. And the traditional facts of the different ethnic groups of Nepal.
The National Museum is not only a collection of historical evidence. This is an open school to learn about the history, culture, and traditions of Nepal. Today I got knowledge about the god and goddesses and their different incarcerations. The Paintings in that museum belong to the lang time pass. And that shows us, what are the source of it and its history. Other antique items were collected from all over Nepal. Those historical items are also stored in this museum. Which are mostly found in different parts of Nepal; such as Mustang and Lumbini.
To get entry into this museum needs to pay an entrance fee. And the Ticket fee is different for different countries’ citizens. For Nepali, it cost 25 rupees for one person, and one needs to pay extra for the camera if one wants to take photos. In other countries, visitors need to pay Rs.100 rupees for tickets. And need to pay extra for photography and videography and it’s kind of mandatory.
On the other side of the road, there is a military museum. This military museum has the best collection of old weapons. And those weapons are used by the military during the different wars in the history of Nepal. That shows that Nepal was capable to invent weapons and how the weapons are modernizing nowadays.
This museum will open at different times during the winter and summer seasons.
