Kirtipur is located on a southwest hilltop of Kathmandu and this is one of the most fascinating and ancient places in the Kathmandu Valley. The name Kritipur has come from the Sanskrit word Kriti means glory and Pur means city so Kritipur is the city of the Glory. Today I made a random tour to Kirtipur because I am free and got good weather after two days of cold temperature. When I reached there the sun was shining and the city was welcoming me.
I visited here after two years, the last time I was there with a Malaysian friend. Every time I go there I enjoy my tour of the old city. This is the homeland of the Newari people so that test a mouth souring Newari food is kind of mandatory. Today’s my snacks in there were a Newari Khaje Set and Hassko Chhoyela (Duck Chhoyela). Newari Khaja Set is one of the most popular Newari foods from the Newari community.
Then I visited the most popular Bagh Bhairav Temple. Bagh Bhairav Temple is one of the oldest shrines in Kirtipur. In Nepali and Newari tradition Bagh Bhairav is popular as the Guardian deity and people call Ajudeu and it means godfather of the gods. Therefore this temple area is always full of people and every day some kind of ceremony will go on there.
Other Beautiful places nearby Kirtipur
Chovar, Chapadevi Hill, Pharping, Machhegaun,
After Bagh Bhairav my next exploration was Chilancho Stupa. This beautiful Buddhist stupa is located in the heart of the Kirtipur. Go to Kirtipur and not visiting this Buddhist shrine means eating curry without salt and spicy. I spent more time there because I belong to the Buddhist community and I felt more connection with Buddhist monuments.
Today’s my third place to look around in Kirtipur was Uma Maheswar Temple. Because making a tour to Kirtipur and not visiting the Uma Maheswar temple is no way. This architecturally rich Temple is located on the top of Kirtipur Hill and from here can enjoy the majestic view of the Kathmandu Valley. Even in the clear weather from here can enjoy the view of the snowy mountain peaks like Gauri Sankar, Langtang, Dorje Lakpa, and Chobu Bhamure. The weather was a bit clear today so I enjoyed the valley view as well as the Mountain View from this temple side.
While I was in Uma Maheswar Temple my mind said today you should to Taudaha Lake. Because this lake lies nearby the Kirtipur. Taudaha Lake is much related to the history of Kathmandu valley. I spent some time there because this is a very peaceful place to spend time. Then I fed some things to the fish because there was a lot of big fishes. I think every people who visit this place will feed fish.
